ContactRelief is making public its Hurricane Irma recommendations made to subscribers Sunday, September 10th.
Hurricane Irma Update
The National Hurricane Center reports in its 8 PM EDT advisory that "Irma is producing hurricane force winds across central Florida." As of 10 PM CDT, 4.4 million homes were without power.
Counties along the coast of South Carolina are still under a storm surge warning and evacuation notices. Although Irma is expected to continue to move northwest and away from South Carolina, we are leaving these areas suspended until the storm surge warnings and evacuation notices are lifted.
Irma has a very large wind field. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 415 miles (665 km).
As the storm continues to move up the Florida peninsula and makes an expected turn north northwest and then northwest, it is expected to pick up speed. We anticipate updating our guidance Monday morning as more is known about the storm's strength further inland.
